| HANDOUT 5 | PERSONAL IDENTITY POSTER |
Research posters and write a design brief
| TODAY’S ASSESSMENT CRITERION A | FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT Criterion A only: analyse existing posters and use what you learn to write a focused design brief. |
For this handout, your teacher records a score for Criterion A only. The other criteria are not being graded on this task.
Key words you need today
| WORD | WHAT IT MEANS |
| audience | the people your design is for |
| analysis | explaining how and why a design choice works, not only saying what you see |
| design brief | a short statement of the need, audience, and intended solution |
Follow these steps
| 1 | Find three appropriate posters. Choose personal identity, student-profile, or ‘about me’ posters. Save a small image or link for each. |
| 2 | Look for design choices. For each poster, write what you noticed first. Then identify one helpful visual choice and one choice you would avoid. |
| 3 | Connect research to your task. Decide what Grade 6 peers need to understand about you within five seconds of looking. |
| 4 | Write your design brief. Use the writing frame. Replace every blank with specific information about your poster and audience. |
Record your thinking
| Poster 1: I noticed… It works because… I would avoid… ________________________________________________________________________________ |
| Poster 2: I noticed… It works because… I would avoid… ________________________________________________________________________________ |
| Poster 3: I noticed… It works because… I would avoid… ________________________________________________________________________________ |
| My design brief: I will design… for… so that… ________________________________________________________________________________ |

Criterion A rubric • score out of 8
| SCORE | WHAT YOUR WORK SHOWS |
| 7–8 | I make precise, thoughtful links between audience, visual analysis, and a brief that strongly guides my design. |
| 5–6 | I use relevant research to explain useful visual choices and write a clear brief for Grade 6 peers. |
| 3–4 | I included research and a basic brief, but my analysis is mostly description. |
| 1–2 | My research, analysis, or brief is missing or too unclear to guide a poster. |
