HANDOUT 7 • SUMMATIVEPERSONAL IDENTITY POSTER

Personal Identity Poster — Summative

Your final challenge: Create an A4 personal identity poster for other Grade 6 students. Your poster must communicate three true identity words through images, colour, type, and layout. Submit the final poster and the evidence in this one handout to the Identity Poster Summative assignment.

How the summative is scored

Criterion A: your research, audience understanding, and design brief. Score: ____ / 8

Criterion B: your specification, ideas, chosen design, and final plan. Score: ____ / 8

Final product: your finished poster must be readable, personal, and appropriate for Grade 6 peers. It supports the evidence but is not a separate criterion score on this page.

HANDOUT 7 • SUMMATIVECRITERION A

Section 1 — Criterion A: Inquiring and analysing

TODAY’S ASSESSMENT CRITERION ASUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT You are graded on how well you explain the need, research existing posters, analyse them, and write a clear design brief.

For this handout, your teacher records a score for Criterion A only. The other criteria are not being graded on this task.

Follow these steps

1State the design need. Write why a personal identity poster is useful in this class. Name the audience: other Grade 6 students.
2Research three existing posters. Choose three identity, ‘about me’, or personal-brand posters. Include an image or link for each. Do not use the same poster three times.
3Analyse each poster. For every poster, explain one visual choice that helps communication and one choice you would avoid in your own work. Mention image, type, colour, hierarchy, or layout.
4Write your design brief. A design brief is a short statement explaining who needs the product, what it should communicate, and who will use it. Use the sentence frame below, then improve it with your own words.

Criterion A writing frame

Design need: A personal identity poster is useful because… ________________________________________________________________________________
Audience: My poster is for… They need to understand… ________________________________________________________________________________
Design brief: I will design an A4 poster for… so that… It will communicate… ________________________________________________________________________________

Criterion A rubric • score out of 8

SCOREWHAT YOUR WORK SHOWS
7–8I make insightful links between audience, research, visual analysis, and a precise design brief that strongly guides my poster.
5–6I clearly explain the need, use relevant research, analyse useful poster choices, and write a focused brief for Grade 6 peers.
3–4I included some research and a basic brief, but my analysis is mostly description rather than explanation.
1–2My need, research, analysis, or brief is missing, unclear, or not connected to the poster.

Teacher score — Criterion A: ____ / 8

HANDOUT 7 • SUMMATIVECRITERION B

Section 2 — Criterion B: Developing ideas

TODAY’S ASSESSMENT CRITERION BSUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT You are graded on how clearly you set requirements, develop ideas, choose one direction, and plan the final poster.

For this handout, your teacher records a score for Criterion B only. The other criteria are not being graded on this task.

Follow these steps

1Write a design specification. A specification is a checklist of success requirements. It tells you what the poster must do before you make it.
2Show three ideas. Attach or photograph your three different thumbnail layouts. Each must show a different arrangement, focal point, or visual approach.
3Choose and justify one idea. Name the chosen idea. Explain how it best meets your audience, identity words, and specification.
4Create a final plan. Make a labelled plan of the poster. Label headline, focal image, colour palette, fonts, supporting text, and where the three identity words appear.

Criterion B planning frames

My poster must… (write at least five checkable requirements) ________________________________________________________________________________
I chose Idea ___ because… It best communicates… ________________________________________________________________________________
My final plan uses… (headline / image / colours / fonts / layout) ________________________________________________________________________________

Criterion B rubric • score out of 8

SCOREWHAT YOUR WORK SHOWS
7–8I develop highly purposeful ideas and a detailed, coherent plan. My justification makes precise links to the audience, brief, and specification.
5–6I create a clear specification, develop feasible different ideas, justify a suitable chosen design, and provide a labelled final plan.
3–4I included some requirements and ideas, but they are limited, unclear, or weakly connected to my chosen design.
1–2My specification, ideas, explanation, or plan is missing or too incomplete to guide a final poster.

Teacher score — Criterion B: ____ / 8

Final submission checklist

Check before you upload

□ I exported my final A4 poster as a PNG, PDF, or PowerPoint file.

□ I included three identity words that are true about me.

□ I attached the design need, research images/links, three poster analyses, and design brief for Criterion A.

□ I attached my specification, three thumbnail ideas, chosen-design explanation, and labelled final plan for Criterion B.

□ I checked spelling, image quality, alignment, and readability at full size and as a small thumbnail.

□ I added this completed handout and all evidence to the Identity Poster Summative assignment in Toddle.

Toddle upload: Attach this completed handout plus the work named above to the same Toddle assignment. This is where your work is collected; do not make a separate portfolio upload.
