Research your brand audience
Practise audience research and a focused brief using your current brand evidence. Keep this work for the summative.
For this lesson
Reuse the card. Make one letterhead.
Reuse Research your brand audience (Worksheet 1) and Plan your business card (Worksheet 2). Keep the existing research, three card alternatives, chosen card, and labeled card plan. Do not make replacement cards or three new letterhead designs.
Due Monday, October 19, 2026 at 20:00 China time.
Keep the practice evidence and feedback. The final task adds one coordinated letterhead and a small labeled plan, not another set of cards or a new report.
Practise audience research and a focused brief using your current brand evidence. Keep this work for the summative.
Formative practice due 12 October. Keep completed work: use teacher feedback to fill gaps, not to repeat adequate research. Refer to existing evidence with its original date; do not copy it out again.
Work through the sheet
Write in the editable handout or on the printed sheet. Add labelled sketches, screenshots or extra pages when you need them.
- 01
Explain the need
Use your existing logo work and audience evidence to explain one specific need. Keep a dated observation or actual user comment. If evidence is missing, ask a classmate what impression your logo gives and what information they need on a business card. Do not repeat an interview you have already recorded.
Keep: A specific user need and one dated observation or actual user comment.
- 02
Plan your research
Review three prioritised research questions and their methods or sources. Reuse your existing questions and findings; explain why the first matters most. Fill only missing links. Consider logo readability, information hierarchy and how brand rules can transfer to another format.
Keep: Three numbered questions with priority, method and source.
- 03
Explain design choices
Use your existing comparison of three coordinated brand examples. Identify colour, typography, spacing or logo-placement choices, with a strength and weakness for the audience. Keep creator, link and access date. If the evidence is adequate, point to it rather than writing the comparison again.
Keep: A short comparison with specific evidence from each example.
- 04
Write your design brief
Use or refine your existing brief: audience, need, intended brand outcome and constraints, supported by research. Keep an adequate paragraph and identify its location. Note any change prompted by feedback. You do not need to design a letterhead for this practice task.
Keep: One evidence-based paragraph; identify the sources it uses.
Grading rubric · 8 points
Formative feedback: four evidence rows, each worth 0, 1 or 2 points (8 total). Existing evidence counts when clearly located. Use feedback to improve the final submission; these practice points are not the summative A/B levels. A row earns zero when no relevant evidence is shown.
| Evidence | 1 point | 2 points |
|---|---|---|
| Explain the need | Names a user or a difficulty but the connection is unclear. | Connects a specific user, a clear difficulty and a reason the solution is needed. |
| Plan your research | Lists questions or methods but does not connect them or explain priority. | Connects three relevant questions to methods/sources and explains the highest priority. |
| Explain design choices | Mostly describes appearance or features without explaining their effect. | Explains how specific choices help or hinder the intended user; supports the comparisons. |
| Write your design brief | Names a product and audience but gives little research support or direction. | Combines the user need and relevant findings into a clear, realistic project direction. |
What to submit
Submit this worksheet, its relevant audience/research evidence, source references and AI-use record to the practice assignment in Toddle by 12 October. Existing evidence may be attached or clearly referenced with original dates. Do not submit a full logo, card and letterhead bundle; no new letterhead is required.
AI-generated designs are allowed. Keep your actual prompts in chronological order with matching versions or screenshots that show progressive changes. Briefly explain why you changed the design and what you checked: readability, accuracy and brand coherence. Use a short existing record, not a new essay. If unused, write "No AI used". Use fictional contacts; do not share private personal data.
